Accommodation Options For Your Next Vacation

The travel world has been evolving rapidly over the past few years, and there are more options than ever before when it comes to creating the perfect trip. For accommodation, people often forget about the many options available at their fingertips when planning a trip and often opt for the easy search of a hotel.  In this day and age, however, where home and room sharing has become so common place, when you prepare for your trip, be sure to look into all of the possibilities for booking accommodation, with their various pros and cons, before making a decision!

Sticking to what you know: Hotels

Hotels are the most well known and popular option. A stay at one of the really luxurious hotels, like a Four Seasons or Hilton hotel, is an unforgettable experience.  It’s clear why hotels are the most popular choice for accommodation as well – not having to cook meals, being tidied up after, feeling pampered, isn’t that what a vacation is all about? Hotels feed into the need for an escape reality, and it’s hard to complain about that!

Another benefit of luxury hotels in particular is that they are usually placed in tourist-friendly areas. They won’t be too far away from a landmark or shopping. Finally, hotels are frequently considered the most reliable option; getting a hotel room is the easiest way to get accommodation in another country and is the most advertised on travel websites.

I have to admit, of course, that coming back home and saying you spent your holiday in a luxury hotel will definitely get you some looks of envy. 😉

A temporary place of your own: Houses and Apartments

There’s nothing like the feeling of being ‘at home’ in a rented property. It may feel a bit weird at first, knowing you’re in somebody else’s home, but that feeling soon goes away as the many benefits to vacation rentals outweigh the initial hesitation.

With vacation rentals, you have an entire kitchen at your disposal, which allows for shopping at local grocery stores, home cooked meals and the ability to reduce the cost of your meals while traveling. If you are traveling with people who have dietary restrictions, this can also be a huge bonus. You can even invite local friends over in your visited country for a cooked meal (assuming your rental doesn’t have any restrictions on that)!

There’s also more space and privacy in an apartment or home you’ve rented for a vacation. I particularly love vacation rentals when I’m traveling with a group, so that everyone is staying in one space and it’s easier for everyone to interact. Last but not least, there is nothing like staying in a vacation rental to give you a true local experience, and to get that “part of the neighborhood” feeling that staying in a rented apartment or home provides!

Getting out there: Lodges, Cabins, Cottages

Maybe you want to be away from the hustle and the bustle of the city. Why not try staying somewhere closer to nature? Forests and mountains have places to stay, in the form of lodges, cabins, and cottages.

A scenic getaway is an excellent way to relieve stress. The calm of being in the peace and quiet of nature without the sounds, traffic, commotion, and distraction of a city is unparalleled. You’re a lot more likely to see breathtaking views of waterfalls and forests right outside your door! If you really want to be isolated, try finding a cabin on a small island that comes with the property. You’d have to take a boat out to the cabin, but that will usually be provided with the stay.
