Whether you’re traveling locally or internationally, it’s always nice to have a few packing tips and rules to abide by to make the process easier and less stressful. Aside from bringing the necessities like toiletries and makeup, here are a few things to consider in packing well, but also packing light, in order to make the most of your time without sacrificing style. I hope you can incorporate at least a few of these suggestions, which blend practicality with fashion, during your next getaway!
Duffle Bag
Whether as a carry-on item for a plane or a smaller bag for weekend jaunts, a roomy duffle bag is a must-have component. Harper’s Bazaar also agrees that a well-made duffle is a great addition to any avid traveler’s arsenal, and likes the practicality they lend for overnight trips. Internal compartments are a great feature for organizing your things, and the lightweight exterior ensures that you can get your bag hoisted into the overhead compartment of a plane with ease. The tropical floral print pictured above from Mi-Pac is a personal favorite, easy to recognize and so, so pretty.
Colorful Luggage
InStyle recommends colorful luggage to make locating checked baggage easier and more efficient when it comes time to peruse the carousels. Take this opportunity to have a little fun with patterns, pops of color, and even texture (hard vs. soft) for a suitcase that reflects your style with a practical purpose. The shocking pink hard lips medium spinner case seen above from Lulu Guinness is a whimsical, yet functional, piece that will definitely put a smile on your face every time you see it!
Neutral Basics
Selecting neutrals that can be mixed and matched will offer you the most options when preparing for your next getaway. Black, white, and beige staples are a must. If you also want to bring non-neutral items, try adhering to a very limited palette of no more than three colors. Jewelry and camisoles are small and can be a compact way to bring along some color on your next trip. Just remember to pack with specific outfits in mind, rather than bringing along a bunch of separates (it’s a hard rule for even me to follow)! Another important packing trick is to use the clothes-rolling method to maximize space and minimize wrinkles. Pieces like the above wrapped belted shirt dress from River Island are great options for this packing tip.
Practical Shoes
The term “practical shoes” does not mean ugly! There’s plenty of comfortable and stylish footwear that doesn’t require you to sacrifice beauty for well-being. Analyzing your activities is a must before packing your shoes. I would suggest to pick: one pair for dressier outings, like heels; one pair for everyday wear, like low-heeled boots or sneakers (depending upon the weather); and one pair of flats, like flip flops or sandals (also depending on the weather). Wear one of the closed-toe pairs on the plane and pack your heels and the second pair in your luggage. Lyst recommends the Formula leather sandals in tan and black from ASOS pictured above for their flat design and versatility.
Make sure you road-trip and jet-set in style with these practical and fashionable packing tips. Looking great and preparing for your next vacay with minimal stress and maximum style has never been easier thanks to a few simple suggestions, like remembering your neutrals and locating your luggage quickly. Hope you’re inspired to start planning your next trip. Until next time, bon voyage and happy travels! XOXO
